Danny's campaign has fully funded! 🎉 A Beam employee is now supporting him on his journey through training and into work as a personal trainer.
But other Beam members need your help. Support the greatest number of homeless people to train up and get into work by giving monthly.
I just wanted to let you know how I'm getting on in the new role. I love it and it honestly gets better everyday. It's the best move I ever made.
My day to day work involves recovery coaching and supporting the residents within the rehab. I'm also organising events and days out. The photo is me at the sports day we had last week.
On the fitness side of things, I've also been taking clients running, going to the health park and planning sessions using the gym equipment there. All of the machines are quite old but you can put them to use. Other staff also offer sessions in crossfit , mountain biking, and Mai Thai - so there's plenty for me to get involved in as well. Thanks so much for your support through Beam - it has given me the confidence to take this opportunity and run with it! 🏃
Well, I'm delighted to say I've started a new job! It's as a support and fitness worker with a highly regarded rehab centre in Thailand. Unfortunately this means I won't be finishing my course and getting my certificate. But without having started this course, I don’t think this offer would have happened. It's made such a difference to my confidence. They could tell that I knew what I was talking about when it came to the fitness side of things.
I do have some nerves about it all - but I think if you’re not nervous then you've chosen the wrong job. I'll be the first person that clients meet when they get off the plane. I'm there to help them with their written and step work as well as taking people out on hiking and bike excursions. I’ll also be doing fitness sessions. That's when I get to put everything I learnt on my course - physiology, nutrition and training - into practice. All of this is especially important when you're working with people who need to build their health up slowly.
Having this opportunity - there was no way I could turn it down. I think it is a privilege to work with people at this stage. I know that if people want it, then recovery can change their lives. I'm planning on this being a job for life. My family are over the moon and already making plans to come and visit. Thank you for all your support that has got me to this stage.
I'm a couple of weeks into my course and I'm really enjoying it. I had the first practical session in the gym yesterday which if I'm honest I was really looking forward to. It was on weightlifting and that's what I'm good at. 🏋️
I was marked quite highly so that really helped me with my confidence - as well as the fact that all of you believe in me too! Thank you for your support.
I'm off the mark 🏃
After a couple of teething problems it's full steam ahead with my course.
Thank you so much for this opportunity, I still pinch myself every day .
Now my dream can begin - thank you so much for your support and believing in me.
I'm now fully funded and I'm starting my training to become a personal trainer next week!! 🎉🎉
This has already changed my life and it can only get better. 💪 Watch this space.
I'm nearly there now and it's down to the support from everyone who has believed in me.
This makes me stronger by the day.
Thank you all so much! The picture is a normal day at the gym for me at the moment.
I'm getting ever closer to my goal, thanks to all of your support!
Now this isn't part of my training but I like to show my appreciation to people whenever I can - so I've made these bad boys, white chocolate cherry and cranberry brownies.👨🍳
Now they just have to make it through the night and into the office intact tomorrow - wish me luck!
HELLO everyone 😁
Well I did it!
I ran the London 10k again in the blistering heat and I beat my time from last year so that's what I set out to do!
But I also ran another 10k that same day so I surpassed my goal. 🏃
So I've signed up for the royal parks half marathon later this year to keep me going and this will all fit in perfectly with the personal training course.
Thank you everyone for your support I'm gobsmacked by the generosity of people and it makes me even more determined to achieve my goals.
Well, a lot has happened in one week! Of course my campaign went live, then my running number came for this year's London 10k which is only 12 days away, so I've been training hard to beat my time from last year. 🏃
Wish me luck and thank you all for your support. 🎉
I've just set my campaign live. It's quite exciting really! It's making my dream of being a personal trainer come to a point where it actually might become a reality - I just want to get to the gym now but it's supposed to be a rest day! (I have reached "legendary" status in the gym because I have been 10 times in 10 days!)
I feel quite honoured that people will donate to my campaign really. When I was homeless people would spit at you or beat you up at night. This just reinstalls some faith in humanity. I feel honoured.
I wish I could put into words the difference your support will make to my life and hopefully going forward the difference I can make to others. A massive thank you to everyone and watch this space!

Too often homeless people are forced to lie out of sheer desperation. We think it's better when relationships are built on trust and honesty. Beam verifies each member in 4 ways:
1. Referral: every member of Beam is referred by a registered homelessness charity or local authority.
2. Interviews: before their campaign launches, each member is interviewed twice by a Beam Member Manager.
3. References: we take references on each member from the charity who refers them and someone in a position of responsibility.
4. Profile: we take great care to verify information in a member's story is true.
It's your money.
We work hard to ensure that you can give confidently.
A caseworker or "Member Manager" is an employee of Beam who helps those referred to Beam to plan a crowdfunding campaign and supports them through training and into work.
All Member Managers are trained professionals who specialise in supporting vulnerable adults by focusing on their strengths and abilities.
