I have some big dreams for the future! I want to improve my skills, get the best job I can, and earn good money. I want to build my life in London, in my own place. And I want to bring my son to the UK to give him all the opportunities that I can.
I was born in Eritrea but grew up in Sudan. I first started learning carpentry there. But in 2014 the country became unsafe for me and I had to leave. I was given refugee status in the UK but knew nobody and was left without money or accommodation. I spent 5 months sleeping rough before C4WS were able to help me find temporary housing.
Determined to put my experience to use, I have found a carpentry apprenticeship. Through this I'll be able to gain the qualification needed in the UK. But without tools or transportation to move from site to site, I’m not able to pick up the work which will let me practise my new skills or save for a deposit. With the boost of Beam, I can do extra hours to pay for stable housing and build a strong career. Your support means the world of difference for me - and my family.
The costs of David’s qualification are covered by his apprenticeship. Beam is fundraising for the tools and transport that will let him gain well-paid work whilst completing his training.
