My dream is to run projects that have social action at their core - making a real difference for people in the community. I have years of experience as a trainer and facilitator. I've led sessions on everything from conflict resolution to disability awareness. But with a gap in my CV and a lack of industry qualifications, I've struggled to get back into work in the sector.
I left the UK three years ago after a family breakdown. When I returned in 2018, I had hoped to find work quickly but it was tough. I stayed in youth hostels and B&Bs until the last of my funds ran out. Finding myself homeless I was referred to the 999 Club, a London shelter. They gave me a place to stay and supported me in my job search. I'm now working as a caretaker. But I want to really put my strengths and skills to use.
It was at the 999 Club that I met Nick, another Beam member who encouraged me to get in touch. With these management qualifications, I can find a well paid role with room for progression. I'm excited but also apprehensive about starting my training - as it's not just me that I feel responsible for. Finding a good job will let me earn enough money to pay towards my children. So I'm doing it for them as well as myself!
