Story

What the future has in store for me and my loved ones, leaves me smiling from ear to ear. Thinking about how I have overcome the worst situations, motivates me to keep moving forward and make my family proud.

In the next six months, I would like to start work as a phlebotomist. It has been a career change I have been considering for a long time, but I have never been brave enough to take the leap - until now.

When we were first homeless, it was a terrible period for my son and I. We were constantly on the move, from hostels to shelters. Life started to improve after we moved into our first temporary housing and my second son was born. There, I realised that there were people who wanted to help me and I was no longer completely alone. I will forever be indebted to their amazing support with my boys. With help from the Council, we now have a roof over our head, but this is still temporary. I have been in temporary accommodation for 13 years now.

I hope that the end goal is as fulfilling as I envision it. This will open so many new avenues for me to walk down, such as meeting new people and expanding my knowledge. My son is currently in medical school studying to become a doctor. He has really encouraged me to follow this path. It would be amazing to work in the same hospital as him!
