Beam supports homeless people through training and into rewarding work.
Each person has been referred to Beam by a homelessness organisation.
You fund their training. And we support them into work.
What the future has in store for me and my loved ones, leaves me smiling from ear to ear. Thinking about how I have overcome the worst situations, motivates me to keep moving forward and make my family proud.
In the next six months, I would like to start work as a phlebotomist. It has been a career change I have been considering for a long time, but I have never been brave enough to take the leap - until now.
When we were first homeless, it was a terrible period for my son and I. We were constantly on the move, from hostels to shelters. Life started to improve after we moved into our first temporary housing and my second son was born. There, I realised that there were people who wanted to help me and I was no longer completely alone. I will forever be indebted to their amazing support with my boys. With help from the Council, we now have a roof over our head, but this is still temporary. I have been in temporary accommodation for 13 years now.
I hope that the end goal is as fulfilling as I envision it. This will open so many new avenues for me to walk down, such as meeting new people and expanding my knowledge. My son is currently in medical school studying to become a doctor. He has really encouraged me to follow this path. It would be amazing to work in the same hospital as him!Show More

Too often homeless people are forced to lie out of sheer desperation. We think it's better when relationships are built on trust and honesty. Beam verifies each member in 4 ways:
1. Referral: every member of Beam is referred by a registered homelessness charity or local authority.
2. Interviews: before their campaign launches, each member is interviewed twice by a Beam Member Manager.
3. References: we take references on each member from the charity who refers them and someone in a position of responsibility.
4. Profile: we take great care to verify information in a member's story is true.
It's your money.
We work hard to ensure that you can give confidently.
A caseworker or "Member Manager" is an employee of Beam who helps those referred to Beam to plan a crowdfunding campaign and supports them through training and into work.
All Member Managers are trained professionals who specialise in supporting vulnerable adults by focusing on their strengths and abilities.
