At work as a Slinger Signaller! (with the cranes you can see in the background)

I would like to say thank you to my supporters for helping me to get to where I am today. We did this together.

I am working well with my new company who Beam put me in touch with. I'm working on the Northern Line Extension in Battersea and I have really landed on my feet with this job. I'm working as a Slinger Signaller and my supervisor is very happy with me and my work.

Now I am in work everything is falling into place and I really am earning a living. If it weren't for Beam I wouldn't be here right now at this point in my life.

Just to say thank you again for reaching out and helping someone in need. What you have done has really made a change to my life and I can't thank you enough.

To be honest, I’ve just been absolutely enjoying life for the first time in a while. Amazingly, all my cravings for cigarettes, alcohol and drugs have gone. I still loving going to the gym. I’ve rekindled things with my ex-partner and this means I get to see my daughter more. I spent Xmas with my brothers and we all got dressed up for this as you can see above. We went out to lunch and people were beeping and cheering us, it was wicked.

In all honesty, I thought I’d be working by now. The longer it goes on the harder I realise it is and, in some ways, I think I was a bit naive. You can’t even get on building sites to chat to people about openings (I know from trying!). I’ll literally take anything to get the experience and references I need. So I feel a bit disheartened by this but not too much as I’m still happy about where I am in life.

I’ve been chatting with Beam and we’re going to see if I can get some of the experience I need with a training centre to see if we get an NVQ you normally need to be working for. I’ve also signed up to an agency today who were really positive and felt we could definitely work together to find a placement. I plan on ringing the agency every few days so they have me on their radar whenever anything comes up - even if it’s only a short job, I just wanna get back to it.
