Recently, I've found myself listening to a lot of motivational speakers - Eric Thomas, Simon Sinek, Oprah Winfrey. I realised that they all have something in common. They've all failed at some point in their lives. But they learnt from it and that's why they're successful today. This has really inspired me to not be afraid of failure, to aim high in life, and to never give up hope.
It's not always been easy to keep this outlook on life. In 2011 I applied for refugee status in the UK after civil war broke out in my country. The application took nearly seven years to be accepted - this meant seven years of not being allowed to work. During this time I became homeless and I felt really alone. But after finally receiving my residence permit, I was determined to better my situation. I found a room in the YMCA, and with their help I started thinking about my goals.
This course will let me find steady work in the security industry. I want to start saving for my own place to make sure I'm never homeless again. And this is just the beginning. In the future I want to go back to studying and use my language skills to train as an interpreter.

Too often homeless people are forced to lie out of sheer desperation. We think it's better when relationships are built on trust and honesty. Beam verifies each member in 4 ways:
1. Referral: every member of Beam is referred by a registered homelessness charity or local authority.
2. Interviews: before their campaign launches, each member is interviewed twice by a Beam Member Manager.
3. References: we take references on each member from the charity who refers them and someone in a position of responsibility.
4. Profile: we take great care to verify information in a member's story is true.
It's your money.
We work hard to ensure that you can give confidently.
A caseworker or "Member Manager" is an employee of Beam who helps those referred to Beam to plan a crowdfunding campaign and supports them through training and into work.
All Member Managers are trained professionals who specialise in supporting vulnerable adults by focusing on their strengths and abilities.
