Everything seems unreal. I can remember the morning my friend called me and told me that we were being invaded. I quickly ran to my window, but everything seemed normal. There were no bombs dropping or soldiers running around but that didn’t last for long. A few days later we heard the news that soldiers had reached our neighbouring town.
We immediately evacuated to Poland for safety, thinking that this whole thing would blow over in a week and we would return to our lives back in Ukraine.Time went on and nothing seemed to change. The realisation that this could go on for some tie had finally sunk in. It was devastating.
I heard about a sponsorship programme which was available to Ukraine citizens to start a new life in the UK. This was a great opportunity for me as I was struggling to settle in Poland due to not being able to speak the language, Also I used to be an English tutor so I knew my chances of getting my life back on track would be easier if I moved to the UK.
Since moving to the UK my main priority has been to find stable work. I would love the opportunity to work in an administrative role as I believe I have the right attributes and transferable skills to thrive in this industry. My dream for the future would be to go to university and study marketing, I feel I'm on the right track to make this happen and I'm so grateful for everyone's support.
