I'm working with Beam to find a job as a support worker, preferably as a youth worker. I've volunteered and worked with young vulnerable people for a long time now, and really love to help them. In the past, I was one of them, so I know how to relate! Getting into work now is important to me because I want to be able to provide for my son and show him that anything is possible. I've been supported to get where I am, so now I want to stand up and support myself and my son. Seeing him is what makes me happy and motivates me each day to move forward.
I became homeless in September 2019 because I got pregnant and had to leave my family home. I was put into temporary accommodation at first, and then into a mother and baby unit where I live now. We have our own space here. I enjoy the independence it gives me and I'm really grateful for the support I've received. Through this experience, I've learnt to be more optimistic and found that there's always a way out. I won't give up on myself because something will come my way eventually. The next step is moving into my own place which I hope to do at the end of the year. I'm really looking forward to that!
In 2 years time I hope to have a stable property for us to live in. I want to be working as a support worker and earning my own money to pay for everything, and to be driving my own car. This is the next step towards independence.
