I'm at my most happy when I see that someone else is happy. I think this comes from the foundations of my Christian faith. Having faith has really helped me through difficult situations like the one I'm in. The most important thing for me to do now is to find stable accommodation so I'm able to build my life up.
It's been almost three months since I became homeless. I first came to the UK from Ethiopia as a political refugee. The situation there was incredibly unsafe for me so I had to leave, although the decision wasn't an easy one and has really affected me. The immigration process that I went through was also very difficult and stressful. When I first arrived in the UK, I was placed in Manchester by the Home Office, which is where I applied for asylum. I didn't have much of a community there, so I decided to move to London for support and work opportunities after my application to stay and work here was approved.
I found a place to live through the Council which was helpful, but when the landlord sold the property I had to move on. This is when I found myself rough sleeping. It has undoubtedly been the biggest obstacle I've ever faced.
I've been fortunate enough to have been working in construction for the past two years. I'm enjoying it but I would like to take my career further. The opportunity to carry out this excavator course is amazing.
It's my dream to one day have a big family that I can support, so truly I want to thank you for helping me work towards this goal.
