I was living in temporary accommodation for the past 6 years, but never really felt safe there - it wasn't a proper home. The past few years have been a struggle of increasing debt and a low paying job as a cleaner, which has sent me into a spiral.
This all collapsed when I was served an eviction notice for the end of May - I was terrified. I ended up living on the street for a couple of months before Beam started supporting me with housing. I'm now hoping to move into my own place, where I not only feel safe and happy, but am also able to live closer to my kids and be a bigger part of their lives. I feel really positive about this whole process, and will feel amazing when I'm settled into the property.
I've had some great work experience in my time - I worked in a University library back in Lagos, Nigeria, I volunteered as a gardener for many years whilst waiting for my immigration status to allow me to work, and I've recently done a Business Degree in the UK too. I'm hoping that some day I will be able to put the degree to good use, and right now I'm focussing on getting a more stable job and setting up a healthy lifestyle to make the best of the future. I'm excited to see what's next for me.
