I made some mistakes when I was younger. I got caught up in a bad environment and spent some time in prison. When I left, there wasn't much support from probation. I was forced to sofa surf when and where I could. Eventually I was referred to St Mungo's by the council and given a hostel space. Now I'm ready for the next step. My main motivation for getting into work is my children. I want to be a good role model, have some stability, and do something I enjoy.
I think it's important for other people to understand your story before they judge. I'm in a much better place than before I met St Mungo's and Beam. But it's all still a work in progress. I feel things will start to truly improve when I start this course and complete my qualification.
I had a friend that did this kind of engineering. He used to post videos of him at work - I liked the look of it! I also like the idea of travelling a lot to different sites and meeting different people. In a couple of years time, I just want to be working and earning something worth getting out of bed for. I want to prove to myself and to the people around me, that I’m more than the person you have seen so far. Words can not describe how humbled and lucky I feel to be given this chance.
