I was in a flat share with my friend who had a stroke about 10 months ago. It was a great arrangement: he needed help and had a spare room and I needed somewhere to stay after separating from my long term partner. About a month ago while my friend was away, I was the victim of an aggravated burglary, as well as being held at knifepoint and hit in the face. They stole everything from me. They tore the place apart quite literally. The police came quickly but advised me not to return as the perpetrators would likely return.
With nowhere to go and no access to any funds, I became homeless. Since then I have slept in my car and showered at the gym, slept on sofas and spare rooms. I work full time but can’t afford the rent in London. It’s a daily struggle. This also means I’ve not been able to have my daughter as much. I still see her but it’s gone from two nights a week to two hours a week.
I don’t have the words to explain just how much this help and support means to me. It blows my mind that there are so many wonderful people out there. Joining Beam is the start for me. With the help of these wonderful people I can finally start to get my life back together. Not just for me, but for my daughter too. In a couple of years time I hope to be in a safe stable home where my daughter can visit and I can be the father I always have been.
