I was working in a warehouse for many years until I was injured and could no longer work. I knew if I continued working the damage to my back would be irreparable. I was also under a lot of stress mentally as the targets were just going up and up. They were expecting inhuman amounts of output from the staff there.
During the last few years, I've been living in a shared house. While I'm grateful to have somewhere to stay the conditions are not suitable to live in. The rooms are freezing, the ceiling leaks. When it rains I'm scared the plasterboard is going to cave in. The condition is one thing but the people I share the house with is worse. They have no respect. There is always loud music, people smoking inside and all types of other trouble. The police are always called to the house by the neighbours but they never stop.
I've tried to get back into work so I can change my situation but all I can get is agency work. This usually means having to do heavy-lifting. I want to use my experience working in a warehouse but move to a less physically-intensive role as a reach-truck forklift driver. I've already used these in the past and know I have the skill to turn this into a career.
I'm so excited about this opportunity to change my life. COnnecting with an amazingly supportive community that will contribute towards my future success.
