My mum was a bookkeeper and she loved her job, but when she went blind she had to stop working, which was really tough for her. It's my plan to carry on the work she was doing. I love maths, I've always been good at it, and I've been trying to find a way to get my accountancy qualifications since I left school. I've finally found one!
In November 2018 I became homeless because I was having arguments at home and had to leave. It was just after I'd given birth to my daughter, which made the situation more difficult. Over the last 18 months, I've had five different temporary homes, which had made it impossible to find any kind of routine. You're automatically put into a stereotype by other people when you're homeless as well, which is tough. Since meeting my support worker at the Single Homeless Project, I've started looking at things more positively. It took over a year, but now I have stable accommodation and I want to start focusing on my career so I can learn as much as possible and get onto the job ladder.
I'm excited that Beam are supporting me to do my initial qualifications in accountancy, as well as to get a job right now so I'm able to support myself and my daughter. I'll be studying remotely, which I'm really looking forward to. The lockdown has been really challenging, as we've been unable to see my nan and my mum. I cannot wait until this is all over and things can return to some kind of normal!
One day I want to have a house for me and my daughter outside the city with a garden. I'll be a full-time accountant as well. That's my dream!
Aleece is working with Beam because she has been homeless in the last year.
