I've been clean for 15 months and feel ready to move my life forward. When I was in active addiction my life was chaotic. I went from one disaster to another and had no belief in myself. Now I want to fulfil my potential and build a happy, stable, and productive life.
When I left school, I trained as an electrician, completed my apprenticeship and qualified in 1993. However, my drinking and drug use also started at this point. I began a journey of addiction that lasted 20 years. Eventually it was impossible to hold down a job long-term. I couldn't further my career or make the most of myself. I remember being completely and utterly demoralised.
Luckily when I reached out for help, I was taken in to Kairos Community Trust. This was a huge turning point for me. With their help I completed detox and received treatment.
Now I want to prove what I'm capable of. Getting my inspection and testing qualifications will let me find work in a less physical role. I'll be able to work into retirement despite the impact that addiction had on my body. I can't wait to be in a stable job and most importantly, feeling happy and content.
