I am happiest when I can be of service to others and bring hope into their lives. My profession as a holistic massage practitioner made me discover this about myself. I am passionate about different healing modalities and helping people to get more understanding about their bodies and about mental health, not as a stigma, but as a silent friend who needs affection and communication.
In March 2020 my work stopped due to the restrictions in place. All our sessions were cancelled and they still haven’t started again. This was an incredibly hard situation for me, made worse when communication with my flatmate became difficult. I wanted to move out because I was struggling to pay the rent, but I also didn’t want to cause any trouble to my flatmate, the agency or the landlord. I found 5 people who could replace me but none could reach an agreement with my flatmate. I was also told that if I left my contract early I would need to pay out the rest of the contract plus more fees. I was scared, overwhelmed and felt trapped.
As time passed, everything got worse. I was searching for new work opportunities but had lost my confidence and was feeling depressed. My flatmate who had gone away for a little while, returned and began bullying and gaslighting me. She also started sending me disturbing messages on social media. Finally I managed to get everyone’s agreement to move out earlier this year. Unfortunately I can’t go home due to travel restrictions but I feel lucky to have had a friend to turn to so I’m not sleeping on the street.
Right now I am doing my best to recover physically, mentally and emotionally from these experiences and am thankful to Beam who will be helping me look for work and a place to live. The first step is looking for a job. I am hoping to find work as a support worker or a carer as it is my nature to help others. After that I will be looking for a place I can call home.
It is difficult for me at this moment to dream for the future. But in the past, I have always wanted to participate in creating a better world through education and personal development. A place where people show more understanding and are genuinely more caring and accepting of each other. I truly believe that every child should grow up feeling safe and no child should lack love, education or a healthy environment.
