I distinctly remember being woken by the bombing at 4am on 14th February 2022. Since that moment, my life has become a great challenge. I had to escape my native city, Kharkiv, in Ukraine and cross many borders with my son.
I arrived in London with my son only several months ago. We were hosted by a British family for six months but this term is now coming to an end. Along with other Ukrainian refugees, I faced very tough requirements to rent a flat, one of which was extremely high prices.
I’m so grateful to every person I have met for their help and support during this time. From facing a big evil like the war, to then experiencing love and kindness from complete strangers, has touched my heart. It gives me hope that goodness will always win and encourages you to go on.
When we are settled, I want to continue to be amazing in my job as a fashion and events artist. In two years, I want to see my illustrations in the windows of London’s boutiques. I also pray for peaceful and prosperous times in my home country, and for my parents safety as they continue to face each day in Ukraine.
