I love to help people, and I have always looked for jobs where I can support others who need it. I used to work in Syria with the UNHCR where I was helping young refugees. I could really resonate with the children, as I was originally born in Iraq then came to the UK as a refugee myself. As a former refugee, I understood the need for all children to feel safe and supported so it did feel great to help them.
When I first arrived in the UK, we lived in Hull, but for the last few months, I have been living with my mum and brother in a hostel here in London. At times it can feel so cramped and airless in here - especially in the summer. We would love to move out, and my aim is to be able to support my family financially. My brother is studying full time, and my mum is unable to work at the moment so I would like to get back into employment and save some money for us all.
I am really excited to be starting a new chapter of my life, working in hospitality at first, then hopefully becoming a security guard one day! In a new role, I will be able to support my family and then we can all have a little bit more space.
