When asked what my passion in life is, I would have to say cooking. I have professional cookery qualifications and I've worked as a chef in the past. I love giving joy through food and there's nothing nicer than making someone's favourite dish and seeing them enjoy it. I see it as a form of caring for others.
I was recently working as a live-in carer but had to leave my position due to my client's family wanting a more experienced carer to take over. My work gave me both a place to live and an income, so when I was let go, I was left homeless. For the last few months I've been living in a squat and trying to piece things back together. I know that I can't be here for much longer and I've been working with the council as well as Beam now to get the help I need.
My dream is to have a stable job and a place to live where I feel safe. It's a simple dream but it would mean the world to me to be in that position. The help I'm getting from Beam around my housing is really vital in helping me get there. I've been through the trauma of domestic violence before and I managed to find the strength inside me to leave that situation. With this support, I think I can find that strength to improve my current situation too. Caring comes really naturally to me and I have formal experience too so once I'm settled in a new flat, I'm excited to get started on the job search!
