Working in electrics has always appealed to me. Since I was young, I’ve always liked new technology and taking apart devices. When I was 13 years old, I took an iron apart, looked at all the components and what they do. I must admit, I didn't put it back together! If my phone breaks, I can also take it apart and fix it too. I want to take apart my Xbox 360, but I'm scared it might never work again!
I love scientific documentaries and teaching myself things so the opportunity to go on a proper course to learn all this and get the qualification is a great opportunity for me. Having this skill will mean I can provide for my family and I. And I can develop a future that I am proud of.
Right now, I live in a supported hostel. I’ve been there for 14 months so far. Previously, I’d been living at my family home but had to move out due to ongoing issues. The plan for me is to move out into independent living but I need to make sure I have a skill first, so I can work and support myself - so this training course is a big first step towards this.
After working as an electrician for a few years, I would really like to start my own electrical business and possibly even think up new technologies for peoples’ homes. The idea that as a result of everything I’ll learn, I’ll be able to create something that works for someone in their own home is really interesting and a big motivation for me.
