My friends have been the most important thing to me over the past year. I have them to thank for giving me advice on how to bounce back from this situation and move forward with my life.
I’ve been homeless since February of this year when, after having a lot of arguments with my mum, I ended up having to leave her house. I spent a few weeks sleeping on buses, riding from one stop to the very end of the line and then back again. Then I started sleeping on the beds and sofas of friends and other family members. I don’t have long left doing this though, as I’ve been doing it for some time now. I’m worried about what might happen, as it’s going to be winter soon and I don’t want to be on the streets when it gets really cold.
This is why I'm working with Beam, who are supporting me to find a place with a room of my own. I’ve been doing everything I can but a lot of landlords aren’t doing viewings and many don’t take people like me who are currently on benefits. Also I don’t really have the funds to afford a place! I'm really looking forward to having a room of my own. It will take a huge weight of uncertainty off my shoulders and enable me to focus on improving my life.
After I have a place, my plan is to get into the construction sector. I already have a Level 3 qualification in Bricklaying, so I’m going to look for work as a construction operative to get started. I know this is a difficult job which can be hard during the winter time when you’re having to work under the rain and snow, but I just love to do it. If I can get properly into bricklaying there’s also good money there if you put a lot of bricks down by the end of the week.
I'm looking forward to fixing up my life and taking my it to another level. I’m moving from a hopeless place to a place with real hope, and for that I’m so grateful.
