I know what I want to achieve and am striving towards it. This year, my goal is to look after myself. I didn’t finish school but I’m not going to let that hold me back. By working in a job I want to do, I know I will feel a real sense of purpose and it will help me become independent.
In 2019, I was kicked out from home and moved in with my Grandma. But then earlier this year, I suddenly lost my job. As I couldn’t contribute financially, she couldn’t keep me there. Being homeless so young is a really scary position to be in and it all happened so quickly.
I went to a friend’s house for a few days and then went to speak to my local Council. They placed me in a hostel and from there, things have become much better. The staff have all been so helpful and supportive. I’m progressing really well and the current plan is that I could move into somewhere I can call home in the next 3 months. I’m especially looking forward to having my own place because I really love animals and you can’t keep pets whilst in a hostel. I’ve always wanted a cat. They are so cute and calming. It’s definitely what I’ll spend my first few pay cheques on!
I came to Beam asking if I could do Delivery Driving as it is a job I can do independently. As a person, I know I can be quite introverted. I’m happy to help people and as a delivery driver I'd still get to do this - like when I'd be delivering the shopping to their door. But you are not dealing with customers all the time! I haven’t left the UK since I was 3 years old, so to have a better job and the money to see more of the world is a dream I’d like to achieve for myself too.
