I grew up in foster care, and that experience has given me a real drive to protect and look after people. I want to make sure they feel safe. This is why I'm going to work in security. I love knowing that I'm able to look after people and make them happy. It's something I'm good at, and I get a lot of satisfaction out of doing a job well and leaving people with a smile.
I live in supported accommodation at the moment. I've been doing so since I was 16 when I left foster care. It is a stepping stone for me to get my own place. This is the dream at the moment, having my own flat and being able to pay my bills comfortably. Getting a job will take me one more step towards that dream!
I know how important work is for your wellbeing. When I was down a few years ago, it was getting a job that got me out of my shell and into the world to talk to people, make friends and find something that I was really good at. My most recent role working as a safety steward for an events company has been a great experience, but there's no work in events any more because of Corona Virus. However, this job has motivated me to move onto becoming a full time security guard. It's a role which is so much in demand during the lockdown, and I hope to find a position where I can help during this period! In order to achieve this, Beam are supporting me to get my licence and then get a job!
