I moved to the UK in 1989 from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Everything about this life is how I choose to deal with it - how I choose to deal with setbacks, negativity and even blessings. Life is just there, silent, doing its thing. Whatever I want to get out of life I have to do myself. It's all about perspective.
I’ve dealt with a lot of hardships, but I won’t let it get me down. Last year, whilst on my way to work, I had a stroke on the bus. Luckily, there were two nurses sitting nearby. They approached me and told me I was having a stroke, and they took me to UCH straight away. They both saved my life. I was sitting on the lower deck, and they were sitting behind me. When it came to my stop, I tried to get off the bus but I just couldn't. The nurses were observing me and realised what was happening. They told the bus driver, and he stopped the bus right away. I didn't even have to wait when I got to hospital - I was taken straight through to surgery.
Every day I thank God for giving me another day to live.
I am a practising Christian, so I read the Bible and that keeps me going! My faith really helps me and makes me realise that I'm never alone. I really want to get myself back into work because I'm such an active person. I'm not used to running out of cash and having to rely on others.
I want to earn money and live my life again. I’d love to work as a carer to help people live a dignified life and to care for them, especially at the end of their life.
