Working in construction means putting things together to give people a better place to live. I've always liked helping people, so getting to do this while learning a trade I can become an expert in would be amazing.
I became homeless at the start of this year. Living with my family had been difficult before, but it really peaked in January and lead to me moving out. I stayed between places, sometimes with friends, sometimes in B & Bs, and sometimes on the streets. I had been working but the company had lost the contract so I was let go. Fortunately, a few months ago I was helped into a hostel so now have somewhere stable to stay.
When you are homeless the way people treat you is completely different. People walk past you every day without realising what you are going through, and you can start to lose yourself. Finding Beam and people who want to support me with my goals feels superb and completely different.
Starting work is my priority so I am first going to go into a Construction Operative job. Once I've started, I will begin my electrician training part time. My goal is to really know my trade, and then share my skills with other homeless young people, so they can support their families too. I want to give back and help them understand the opportunities that are out there.
