My main motivation is to see myself reach my potential and contribute positively to society! I want to use my experiences and skill sets to help power meaningful change.
About 2 years ago I lost my business back home. A few safety concerns which arose meant that I also had to leave home. When I arrived in the UK I went through a very difficult and draining immigration process. I developed depression and a panic disorder in response to the things happening in my life. If my homelessness experience has taught me anything, it's that support of any kind goes a long way! Homelessness is a lonely and demeaning experience. A catch 22 situation, where to achieve one thing you need a number of other things to be working well - but to make everything work well you need to tackle one thing at a time until you regain your ability to juggle things simultaneously. It's even harder when you have a mental illness to deal with. Fortunately things started to improve when I moved into my temporary accommodation. It gave me the opportunity to recalibrate myself, focus on my health and look towards rebuilding my career.
It occurred to me one day that since the age of 8 I have been at home working on and fixing computers. My passion has only grown since my childhood. People working in my field power everything from microwaves to a space stations. The work fits perfectly with my nature. I simply love creating useful things. The whole process of creating a tangible product out of a mere idea and a few tools gives me joy, a sense of meaning and purpose. As we move into an era where we are heavily dependant on software, the need for ethical tech developers has never been more paramount. I want to be one of these developers!
In a few years time I hope to be a healthy Senior Software Engineer with a stable home and meaningfully contributing to fighting homelessness and mental illnesses. I can't wait to be working as a part of team of passionate and dedicated professionals!
