When we understand that teaching and learning comes in many forms from many people, then we open ourselves up to so much. I have some experience working in education and feel that I learnt so much during that time. I can't wait to get qualified and start making a difference to more people!
When I first moved to this country I was living with my family. As time went on we developed a few issues and it made sense for me to move in with my then partner. When I fell pregnant however, he turned into a different person. An abusive person. I didn't have anywhere else to go so I always ended up back at his house. I would find myself staying late in libraries or shopping centres to avoid the abuse, but was always too afraid of rough sleeping. I was also having a few issues with my immigration status. That part of my story made things so much harder because I didn't know who to turn to. Homelessness is such a horrible situation. The instability of it is bad enough, but for me the worst part was feeling rejected.
Things started to improve when a friend put me in contact with an incredible organisation called the Hackney Migrant Centre. They were able to house me in the short term, and put me in contact with social workers who were able to support me in the longer term. They also put me in touch with another organisation called Praxis who helped me gain my leave to remain.
I want to do this training so that I can start earning and independently looking after myself and my baby. I'm really looking forward to starting my studies and proving to everyone that I can do this! In a couple of years time my life will look so different. I will be building a career that I've always dreamt of and will be in stable housing with my son.
