I came to the UK last year with my sister after the war broke out in Ukraine, whilst our parents went to Poland. Until a few months ago we were living in temporary accommodation and now we have our own place, but I’m worried about getting evicted as we cannot afford the rent at the moment.
Life is changing very fast, and my experience of war in my country means I try to be more flexible and am cautious about making plans about the future. I’ve learned that anything can change overnight, but I’m hoping to get into digital marketing as that’s what I have a degree in. I was also working as a translator and interpreter back in Ukraine. Right now though I’d like an office job, like an admin role or personal assistant-type job, because I love to work and interact with people and I am used to an office environment, but also have experience working remotely online. I want to improve my English levels, and to do this I need to talk and communicate more with others.
My real passion in life is sport and dance, particularly Latin dancing. I'm planning to get back into dance when I’m able to, especially as it will be a good way of socialising and making friends here so I would love to find a dance class I can join.
In a few years I would like to be financially stable, with a stable career, have a good home, somewhere I can be comfortable and cosy, and would like to have enough reliable friends here in the UK. I’d also like to be helping my parents in Poland as they need financial support.
Knowing that there are people out there who want to support me is amazing, every time I am shocked. In the first month of the war when I was in Poland, I was shocked at how much people are willing to help those in need. Since then I really value it and it's amazing there are people who honestly want to help someone in need, for nothing in return.
