I moved to the UK from China five years ago. Since moving here, I’ve spent the last few years juggling studying with raising my young daughter. I just graduated and I’m really keen to find work. If I find work, it’ll be my very first full-time role.
My dream is to become financially independent so I can support my daughter and I. My daughter makes me so happy. She is the only family member I have in the UK. Whenever I’m going through difficulties in life, I look at my daughter and see her smile, and that’s all I need to help get me through. I'm new to being a mother, and I'm learning so much from her. You can learn things at school, but you can also learn a lot of things from your children too.
My daughter is teaching me how to love. Growing up, my parents didn’t teach me about love or show me love, so I never really knew what it looked like. But as soon as I had my daughter, I've learnt a lot about love. Sometimes it feels like she's teaching me more than I teach her!
In two years' time, I don't want to rely on universal credit anymore. I want to move out of my council housing, and I want to be financially independent. I'd love to work as a retail assistant because I love meeting new people and being in a busy environment. Over time, I want to work myself up and build my way towards a career where I'm helping people and giving back to others. I don't have professional experience in that field just yet, so I'd love to gain a qualification in health and social care so I can hopefully work in that field one day.
