This year has been very difficult. Before, my life was good. I had my own place and business with my partner. A year ago my partner passed away very suddenly. Shortly after this, I was locked out of my own house by my partner's family who wanted to take everything from me and control all of our finances. Eventually, I called the police but they said I had to move out as my name wasn't on the tenancy agreement.
Me and my son ended up at a Women’s refuge after we were aggressively kicked out of our home. My son, who suffers from a social communication disorder, has had three different schools in one year. This has made managing his disorder extra challenging.
We are slowly rebuilding our lives. Finding a home was the first step. With council support, I managed to find a private rental flat, but I came from the refuge with nothing and the property was completely unfurnished. Beam is helping me buy all the furniture I need for my new home. I am so thankful for this as it’s been so hard to start from scratch. I'm now focussing on increasing my work hours at my job which I love, the hours are perfect for me. Moving out of the refuge and having more of a social life has helped me get back my independence. I hope this new situation is a permanent change for me and my son.
