If I continued to sit here, I’d be fine, but I want so much more than that. I want to change my life and stimulate my mind. I’ll be showing my kids that Mummy has a job, this is how you earn money and they should do this too.
I’ve been in temporary accommodation since 2011. We’ve been moved between 5 different properties over the years. You do not know when or where you’ll be moved, but working will hopefully mean my situation becomes a bit more stable.
Running a household on your own with 4 children gives you a lot of good life skills. Every week, I budget and plan my shopping. I do all my household jobs when the children are at school and nursery and then come home and do lots of cooking so it’s easier throughout the week. When thinking what I want to do, I needed to be practical and make sure I’m still able to be there for my children. Cooking in a school will suit me really well! I cook a lot of spicy Ethiopian and Sudanese food but my children like English food - fish fingers, mash potato, macaroni, so I can cook that too!
Starting training and work is going to boost me in so many ways. I know that the more I learn, the more confidence I’ll get. My English is fine, but I want to improve and practice more, especially my writing. Of course, I love being a Mum - the nursery manager even calls me "super mum!" But getting out the house and interacting with other adults at work is going to be a really nice, positive change for me.
