I am keen to develop myself and get back into work so I can provide for myself and my family.
I have three children and my Universal Credit allowance is limited at the moment as I am not in work. This means that I can’t cover my rent and essentials with my current income, and am being supported temporarily by Greenwich Council while I work with Beam to find a job. By doing this, I’ll be able to meet our basic needs and hopefully save some money as well. If I don't get into work, I won't have enough funds in the long term to afford our rent.
I’m looking for work as a support worker. I did this role a few years ago, where I worked for about a year with people living with severe epilepsy. I was the person who sat next to them if they had a seizure, who made sure they didn't cause any harm to themselves while it was happening, and who supported them as they regained consciousness after. It was a very rewarding job. I left when I had my child, but I would like to return to it now. I want to be in a position to support others again to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.
If everything goes well, my life will definitely take an upward turn in the next two years. Once I’m in work and I’m able to cover my basics, I’m going to focus on continuing my own professional development so I can move upwards in my life and be in a position where I can provide completely for my children.
Ivie is working with Beam because she's at risk of homelessness.
