Returning to a professional setting and having the opportunity to get my independence back is so motivational for me. I’m willing to work hard so I can be the best version of myself, not just for me, but my children’s future too.
Before being a full-time Mum, I had a 10-year career in reception and administration. I’m a real people person and love helping people. I really try to bring a genuine happiness to wherever I work. And I can always come up with a solution. Other staff would often come to me because they know I'd get the job done well.
Back in 2013, I had my first child. At the time, I was living with my Mum and but the property was really overcrowded. I was placed in a hostel and since then I’ve had 4 different moves. Living in temporary accommodation for so long hasn’t been my choice. It’s just extremely hard to find your own, independent housing when you have young children. I’m really anxious about being moved again. All I want is to be settled somewhere, but you never know when you may be forced to move, often because the landlords want their properties back.
Last year, my 2-year old twins began to attend nursery and this gave me the space and time to reflect on what I want in my life. Luckily, around the same time, my housing officer forwarded my details onto Beam. This has got me to a point where I feel I can really move forward. I was talking to my family about my skills. I went off and researched HR more. It’s all around working with employees but with a business side to it too. I knew I'd found just what I want to do.
Over the next few years, my goal is to be promoted to HR Manager. Outside of work, this will give me the means to live each day more comfortably and hopefully afford a move to a bigger property. Providing my children with their own room would be a dream.
