Over the last eight years, I’ve faced many challenges looking for a home. I've always lived with my mum, but she wasn't happy for me to continue living there when I had my baby, and I needed somewhere to raise my small family.
Not being able to provide housing references or guarantors, I sometimes felt judged when approaching landlords while facing the barriers of saving for a deposit and first month's rent whilst supporting my newborn. As the cost of living has gradually increased, so has the waiting list of people needing social housing. I’ve found it even more of a struggle to access the housing market since I had my son. If it wasn’t for Beam, I don’t know if I would find a property to move into.
I can’t wait to know that my Beam journey has been accomplished because I have a property to live in. I’m looking forward to being settled in my house, watching my child grow and getting back to work as a nursery assistant.
It's a good feeling knowing that there are such kind and generous people out there to support us into a home. It makes me even more determined to make the best of the property for myself and my son. It won’t just be somewhere secure for me and my baby to live independently, it will be a breath of fresh air - a new start.
