I have always wanted to make the world safer and I see the job of a security guard as doing just that. I have experience as a concierge officer and love how being on the front-line means interacting with people from all walks of life. Getting my SIA licence will give me the opportunity to gain more skills that will allow me to find stable and better paid work in the security field. It's a step up that I'm excited for!
I lived abroad for some time and when I came back I couldn't find work. I was too proud to ask for help and wanted to fix things myself. I didn't know anyone I could stay with and my lowest point came when I started sleeping rough in a park. I was able to shower and get food from an outreach charity which I was very grateful for. I was eventually found by a homeless organisation and started to live in a hostel where I tried to piece things back together.
A few years on, I have a roof over my head but I'm still trying to pay off old debts from that chaotic time in my life. I want to be able to support my partner and grandchildren like I should be. My partner is going through a battle with cancer at the moment and so I want us to be focusing on enjoying life instead of worrying about the bills!
I'm looking forward to employers asking if I'm SIA trained and proudly saying yes!
