I'd never been out of work until things went downhill a few years ago - just before the pandemic, I struggled with illness and ended up losing my business due to the pandemic. It was a job where I needed to travel lots and that just wasn't possible.
I struggled a lot after my father died and ended up falling into arrears and ultimately homeless. I really do want to go back to Uganda at some point so I can say goodbye because being homeless and struggling would have been easier with my father to talk to.
Even when I was in a sales job travelling around, I loved the idea of talking to people - I studied law but couldn't afford to reach the next level myself. I'd be so proud to do something similar in the future - I just have an affinity for working with people.
I love going into my local Luo (Ugandan) community and helping with MCing and things like that. Over easter we're excited to gather and have lots of music and I'm so grateful to do this after years of being locked down.
I already have a job in the pipeline so I'm looking to get Beam's help with some things to make starting work easier.
