This is the first time in my life I've been out of work for a sustained period. It feels strange. My career has mainly been in manual sectors across construction, factory work, machinery handling, pub landlord and cleaning. I've never been afraid of hard graft. To be honest, I enjoy it. However, 20+ years of this has taken its toll on my body and I'm no longer physically able to keep up with it.
I'm now looking for roles which are slightly less manually intensive and will not endanger my physical health. I'm still able to do light cleaning, driving roles without heavy lifting and construction management roles. My biggest blocker is training and access to a laptop. If I had both of these I could move into a more sustainable career and get myself back into work.
I'm looking forward to being able to improve my tech skills once I have a laptop and enjoy this next phase of my working life.
