Life can take you up to the sky or down to the ground. Ten years ago, I would never have imagined the direction my life would go in. Yet becoming homeless has also shown me how resilient I am. I can tackle whatever comes my way.
Before 2010 I took good health for granted. I didn't drink a lot or take drugs so it was a shock to fall suddenly ill and discover that my liver wasn't functioning. I was given a transplant but experienced serious complications in recovery. I had to stop working, couldn’t pay rent, and spent the next few years sleeping rough or staying with friends. Now I'm in a hostel and am able to take control of my circumstances. With all my health challenges I’m grateful that I am still able to work. For me it’s not about money. It’s about progressing from where I am now and passing what I learn onto others.
To be a great accountant you have to be organised, quick thinking, and good with numbers. These are all strengths I already have! But you also need the qualifications to show it - that is where your support comes in. I've never lost my optimism and I'm really eager to prove myself once again.
