Seeing my grandchildren gives me hope for the future. I'm looking forward to completing my courses and for a new challenging and exciting future. In a few years' time, I hope to be healthy, happy and in a job that I love. I'd also like to be in a position where I’m able to help others through Beam.
My life spiralled due to personal tragedies many years ago and it eventually triggered depression. Even though I was in work I was silently not coping. Not being honest with anybody about how I really felt. This led to financial difficulties in many areas, especially with my home.
I want people to understand that they shouldn't feel ashamed of their situation and that homelessness can happen to anybody. Reaching out to people to support you can make all the difference. Things started to improve for me when I got in contact with Beam. The Beam team is helping me to get my life back in order and my self-esteem back. It's helping me to get out of bed and start the day with new energy. It’s been very hard but I’m taking each day as it comes. Like most people, the lockdown was a very testing time for me and at first, I found it incredibly lonely and isolating. I don’t have many family members or friends physically near me and with no unessential travel allowed I felt a little trapped. Fortunately, this is changing now that things have opened up a bit.
I'm really excited to go into this line of work because I enjoy meeting and greeting new people and I'll be able to do that every day. I think it'll also be quite fulfilling to help keep people safe and be out and about again. When I'm back in work, I'm looking forward to buying nice things for my home and taking time to treat my friends and grandchildren who have been very good to me. They've supported me and continue to support me when I’m having a bad day.
