Accomplishing a difficult task gives me a great sense of purpose. I believe in my ability to overcome challenges, which will help me on my way to becoming more independent; to take care of myself and of my family. And of course, to do all of this while enjoying life!
My husband, our baby and I are living in a hostel in Hammersmith and Fulham after being evicted from our last house. I've learnt from this experience not to feel worse about myself because of my situation. I can remain focused throughout on my goals and I can still achieve my dreams while improving, step by step, my situation. My friends and my church family have come to our aid throughout this time and have assisted us to move forward.
At the centre of my motivation is my desire to give our child a better life than I have had. I'm working with Beam to get a job in order to earn enough that I can do this. In the short term, I'm going to be applying for roles as a support worker or care assistant; roles where I can help vulnerable people to live better. I enjoy this sort of work because I like working with people who are going through challenges; you can learn a lot from them. I used to work as a carer before and had a good relationship with the people I worked with. I was there to give them encouragement. I had a great rapport with them and helped them to laugh as well.
Alongside this, I'm also going to be training as a teaching assistant so that in the future I can play a role in helping today's children to succeed in life. In the long term, my goal is to become a certified teacher, so I'm grateful to be able to begin on this path.
