I'm Johnel, and I'm the proud mum of an incredible 9-year-old girl. I always wanted to be a librarian because I love reading. Things were going great, I had my own place where my daughter and I were living, and I started studying Creative Writing and English Writing. However, life had other plans. My daughter needed a lot of support and my grades started to fall. And I later learned she was autistic.
So, I dropped out of university to give her the best support. But I felt like I let myself down, and honestly, I felt like I was failing as a mum too. I always had this goal of getting a degree and being the best mum I could be. And then, on top of it all, I had to go through surgery for scoliosis, which made life even trickier because I couldn't give my daughter all the care she deserved. So, I packed up and moved back in with my mom.
Life's been a real rollercoaster without a stable home, and finding a job has been a struggle. Not having a laptop has made applying for jobs online a real headache, and travelling to interviews can be costly as well as not having any formal clothes!
With Beam's help, I'm determined to be a successful Call Centre Agent for a security company. I believe this opportunity will give me a fresh start, and eventually, I'll have a cosy home where my daughter can grow up happy. I haven't given up on my dreams either. When the time's right, I'll go back to school and chase that degree.
I am a strong and resilient person, and I believe there are bright days ahead!
