I've wanted to be an electrician for years and years. I was inspired to do this job by both my father and a gas repair engineer that came to the house. I can be a bit obsessive about solving problems and understanding how electrical installations work is really exciting to me.
I first became homeless when I left the family home. I was bogged down by life stresses - breakdown in relationships and a child on the way just got too much for me. I found myself turning to drugs and alcohol and eventually, that got too much too. I knew I had to sort my life out so I took myself to a recovery centre and spent 6 months there. Everything changed for the better when I gained a mentor. He's been a key point in my life and helped me make tremendous progress. I've been sober for a year now and have moved back to London to live in supported housing.
I actually started my Level 2 in Electrical Installation two years ago and I am almost done with my Level 3, but I have a backlog of course fees to pay. Without paying the fees, I won't be able to complete the course nor will I get my certificates. Thanks to Beam and your contributions, I'll finally be able to qualify and work as an electrician. On the side, I currently work as a pizza delivery driver to earn myself an income. Hustling hard has always been important to me, and I can't wait to see my course to the end.
In 2 years time, I want to be working consistently, taking on self employed jobs and living back at home with my family. I'll be drug and alcohol free for 3 years and I'll be able to provide financial security for the family. I have two young kids and I'm really looking forward to spending time with them and watching them grow up.
