I’ve been a full time mum since I was 18. I have four children, and they are my world.
My benefits are limited as I'm out of work, which means it's hard to afford everything and to pay for rent. Greenwich Council has helped us with the rent so far, but now I want to get a job so I can pay for things myself.
The truth is I haven't worked before, so this will be my first step into the workforce. My aim is to look for work as a cleaner. I love cleaning. Having four children of course means that I clean a lot, and I love the idea of doing it for work. I also have most of my family in this line of work, including my sister, my mum and my auntie. They seem to really like it, so I think that I’d like it too.
Beam is helping me to get a job and they're going to fund some things I need to start working. Most importantly, they're funding my childcare costs for the first month of work while I'm getting set up with everything.
In the future, my plan is to be a maternity support worker, as I want to work with mothers who are going through what I’ve been through. Moving forward, I’ll need to get my qualifications and some experience, but right now I’ve got to start somewhere, and cleaning seems like a good place!
