I like to live a holistic life and make sure that I spend time doing things that make me happy. One of those things is spending time with my children. Children see the world in a different way which can be so refreshing, especially if you're going through something.
I used to be a minicab driver but when I lost my job I was no longer able to pay for my car insurance. I had no prospects of getting that job back without the insurance and I started to get behind on my rent. Eventually, I had no option but to sleep in my car. That period of time was really tough. I was then helped into a hotel at the beginning of the pandemic and now I'm in temporary accommodation whilst I try to get back into work.
I landed in the world of construction just after secondary school. I worked in a DIY shop as well as a joinery straight after, which I loved. I tired to gain qualifications in carpentry and plumbing at college but had to drop out due to family circumstances. It wasn't the right time for me but I'm so happy to have this opportunity to do some related training now.
I've worked as a plumber's mate before and my ultimate goal is to get back to that. I'm happy to look for labourer work at first and then once I've completed my training I'll hopefully be able to utilise my new skills at work. In the longer term, I'd love this path to enable me to buy some land that I can build on and live sustainably by growing my own food.
