I became homeless for the first time in my life when I lost my job due to the pandemic. My rent wasn’t coming in on time, so I fell behind on payments. The landlord wasn’t willing to give me time to sort myself out, so I was kicked out the property within a week of losing my job.
When I can, I sleep on the sofas of my family and friends but quite often I have to sleep on the streets, with my backpack on my back. I enjoy walking so most days I take a bus somewhere out of Central London and then spend the day walking back in.
Being referred to Beam has given me the hope that I can change my life for the better. In the future, I’m looking forward to feeling settled in my new home - I haven’t felt excited like this in a long time. I feel stunned by how supportive and helpful Beam have been. They have given me all the advice I needed to change my situation for the better.
