I was a child of the social care system, so have suffered neglect in many of the places I’ve previously lived. This has made it hard to feel safe and settled anywhere. I suffer from depression and schizophrenia, and recently lost my job in banking due to a mental health breakdown. This led to a prolonged period of homelessness, where I have stayed in hostels and on friends' sofas.
I have been trying my best to stand on my own two feet but without a proper income, references or good credit I have had few housing opportunities. With Beam’s help I have been able to find a more long term property, and I am grateful for their support. Due to my background in the foster care and children's home system it has been hard to communicate my needs properly or accept help.
Beam have been supportive and patient which I really appreciate! I have felt heard and looked after. Moving feels daunting but at the same time it is a breath of fresh air and a new start! I am ready to set up my new home. One day I hope to be an example of someone who has turned a tragedy into a heartwarming and inspiring story, I want to be an inspiration for others. No matter what you go through in life we can be part of society, contribute towards community and feel emotionally fulfilled.
In two years time I hope to be working again full time. I want to be learning to drive, living in a house with a garden and pets, and getting ready to start a family. My dreams are simple; a peaceful and safe life. One day I hope to contribute to other people’s pages on this platform!
