I never been savvy with DIY but I’ve always really wanted to learn more about how things work. Being an electrician will definitely teach me that. It’s a skill no-one can take away from you and I’ll have this knowledge forever.
I became homeless 4 months ago. My family household was too small for my daughter and I to live in. We needed our own place. Thankfully, the council placed us somewhere that’s suitable for the two of us but it’s only temporary.
Being housed has brought a lot more stability to my life. Now, I want to work towards making our current place feel like more of a home. The next step is gaining a course through Beam that'll help me improve my career and get me where I want to be.
My friend did an electrical apprenticeship so we've chatted about what it involves and it sounds good. Plus, I want to challenge myself, learn new things and achieve something. Since school, I’ve always worked, but I want certain things in my life for my daughter and I and all this costs money! So my main motivation for wanting to get a skill is because it's beneficial for my family's life.
If everything goes well, in the next year or so, I will be a qualified electrician. Hopefully I can go on to study further whilst working to become a higher qualified electrician. I’m unsure what I’d like to specialise in right now but know it can evolve into other engineering-related roles and I think mechanical engineering sounds cool. I’m looking forward to what the future holds!
