My current situation is not very secure at all. I live in a three-bedroom house with eight other people. As you can imagine the environment is not a healthy one. Due to the number of people living in the home being unmanageable we have been asked to leave and find another place to live. This would have been fine a few months ago when I was working but due to COVID I no longer have work and have struggled to get back into employment.
If it was just myself l had to think about I would not be too worried. However, I have a son. He is the most important person in the world to me and all I want to do is provide a stable home for him to grow up in. He has recently been diagnosed with Autism which has motivated me to ensure he has everything he needs to succeed in life.
Having a child at a young age without his father being present was a real struggle and it has taken me a while to find my feet again. For the first time in a while, I feel like I am moving in the right direction and I am building some positive momentum. Stability is key for his development and thankfully working with the council and Beam has given me a route to providing this for him.
I’ve had previous experience in care and social sectors and always loved it. It sounds like a cliche but I love helping people. I now want to use Beam’s support along with my experience and passion for the role to turn this into a career. Something I am proud to do and makes me happy every morning when I wake up. In two years time, I want to be a respected Support Worker, own my own car and have a happy home for me and my son.
