What really makes me smile is when I can make someone’s day by helping them with something they find difficult. In the last few years I’ve come to realise that it’s really satisfying when you do a good deed and can help others in life. I’m always concerned about the safety of other people and that's why being a security guard appeals to me!
In November 2016 I was evicted from my house because of arrears that had built up. I was depressed at the time, and had no motivation to change my situation or take control of the basics like looking for work or paying my bills. Over the last few years I’ve been sofa surfing and trying to piece things back together slowly. I have a son who is my inspiration to improve my situation and I want to be a good role model to him. I finally feel more positive and I’ve recently started to engage with my local mosque, which has been helping me to feel the support of a community.
I’ve been looking for jobs as I already have my SIA door supervision qualification but I know that a CCTV licence will open up lots of new opportunities for me! With Beam's support, I'm excited to eventually rent my own flat once I've saved some money. It'll feel so satisfying to have a permanent place that I can call home and means that I can focus on the important people in my life. I can see the look on my son's face already!
