The past few years have not been the easiest, but through meditation, a positive attitude and music I’ve been able to keep a positive outlook on life and keep going. A few years ago I was able to escape an abusive relationship, whilst also managing an undiagnosed health condition, so while that was a challenging period, I got myself back on my feet. I’m happiest when spending time with my family and watching football, something I’m excited to do a lot more of over the coming weeks!
In March last year though when the pandemic hit, I lost my job. I was working in a good job in accounting, but all of my skills were learnt through on-the-job training as opposed to a professional qualification, which has made it harder to compete against other people in the job market. Losing my job meant I had to go onto Universal Credit for the first time, which has left me struggling to pay rent and pushed me in arrears.
I am so excited to get a full time job and start work again! I’m excited to move off of Universal Credit and becoming financially independent is my goal over the next few months. I feel that I’ve also decided I’m going to use this as an opportunity to look at different career opportunities and I’m so excited to be looking for support worker roles with Beam! I love helping people and know it will be an exciting new challenge for me!
